This course provides an introduction to the Jimmo v. Sebelius case and the fact that Medicare coverage is available even to those in the program whose conditions will not improve, but who may need ongoing skilled services nonetheless. The course begins with an overview of Medicare. It then explores the common issue of refusal of coverage for patients who are identified as unlikely to improve or completely recover from their conditions. The Jimmo v Sebelius class action lawsuit brought clarity to the fact that Medicare DOES cover those patients and set off a chain of communications and ongoing actions to assure this coverage is available. An effort that is ongoing today.
