2024 saw continued evolution in the patent law landscape, as significant court rulings and emerging technologies shaped its direction.

Activities at the Supreme Court, the Federal Circuit, various District Courts, and the Patent and Trademark Office influenced existing patent frameworks—such as a complete rewrite of the long-standing obviousness test for design patent invalidity—and also raised new questions about intellectual property rights in a rapidly evolving marketplace.

This course addresses each of these sources of law, with special attention paid to  developments at the Federal Circuit. It also looks forward to touch on what the future may hold including, for example, artificial intelligence and ongoing congressional debates about potential patent legislation changes on the horizon.
