For lawyers new to practicing in Illinois, this program is a valuable introduction to the similarities, and differences, between federal civil pleadings and civil pleadings in the Illinois state judicial system. After introducing the Federal and Illinois structures for Affirmative Pleadings, the course covers possible responses to pleadings. It then addresses why and when pleadings might need to be amended, the role of supplemental pleadings, and why the initial pleading(s) that launched an action may wane in importance or fall away as a case proceeds.
