William J. Holloway of King Holloway Lipinski LLC in Chicago is the September IICLE® Spotlight Author. Holloway is the author of the IICLE® handbook TITLE INSURANCE: THE DEFENSE OBLIGATION (2019).
Holloway first began writing for the Institute with the 1994 edition of MECHANICS LIENS IN ILLINOIS. He credits his scholarship in part to Jim Bayer, who was the claims manager of Chicago Title Insurance Company (CTI) during the time Holloway was an associate at Hinshaw & Culbertson. Over the course of several years, Bayer asked Holloway to work on “progressively more complex claims in defense of CTI.” It was during this time that Holloway also was introduced to J. Bushnell Nielsen (author of TITLE & ESCROW CLAIMS GUIDE) and Robert E. Ellis (author of TITLE INSURANCE LAW HANDBOOK), with whom he says he spent several years preparing for and trying major litigation in Madison, Wisconsin.
The Institute has been an important professional resource for Holloway. He has reciprocated by writing several articles on real estate and employment issues, including his latest solo handbook project, TITLE INSURANCE: THE DEFENSE OBLIGATION, which was published by the Institute this past August.
In addition to his work at King Holloway Lipinski LLC, Holloway is a member of the Leading Lawyers Network, the American College of Trial Lawyers, the Illinois Society of Trial Lawyers, the American Arbitration Association’s Employment Litigation Panel, and the Association of Attorney Mediators. He holds the AV Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, and he served in the U.S. Navy as chief engineer of an ocean minesweeper. He is an alumnus of the Iowa State University and Northwestern Pritzker School of Law.
