Robert R. Parker of Parker & Parker in Peoria is the focus of our July FLASHPOINTS author spotlight. Parker is a contributing author to ADOPTION LAW (IICLE®, 2020). Genie Miller Gillespie of Gillespie Law Group, LLC, in Chicago, who has served as general editor of ADOPTION LAW since 2002, recommended Parker due to his involvement with the American Academy of Adoption and Assisted Reproduction Attorneys (AAAA), of which Gillespie is currently President.
Parker says he has referred to the ADOPTION LAW handbook “for a number of years,” especially as he learned the intricacies of adoption law from his now-retired mother, attorney Theresa Hardesty. Despite the complex nature of adoption law, Parker says it is a small community of attorneys with relatively few resources, which can make it difficult to pick up the nuances of its procedure and practice tips. For the 2020 edition of ADOPTION LAW, Parker assisted with the updates to two chapters; both covered topics that Parker is intimately familiar with: downstate adoption procedure, which he notes often varies greatly depending on which county a matter is involved, and the ways in which the Internet has impacted the adoption field. Parker reports that attorneys with adoption-related issues will be able to quickly pinpoint some of the “how-to answers” that are not found in statutory and case law in this IICLE® handbook.
Outside of his role as Partner at Parker & Parker and his membership with the AAAA, Parker has been recognized by Super Lawyers as a Rising Star (2015 – present), has been named an Emerging Lawyer by the Lending Lawyers Network (featured in 2016 as “Peoria’s Savvy Adoption and Family Law Counselor”), and was highly ranked by Leading Lawyers among all under-40 downstate attorneys (2020). Parker earned his B.A. from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, as a James Scholar, and his J.D. from the St. Louis University School of Law, earning honors for Trial Team and serving as Vice President of the Student Bar.
