In this interactive session, Steve and Julie will present a hypothetical zoning petition and discuss a variety of the procedural issues that come up in controversial zoning hearings and meetings. The presenters will discuss how to deal with neighbor opposition, including best practices for cross-examination, advanced registration requirements, continuation requests, neighbors who use the process to delay, commission members who are afraid to vote, commissioners who sign petitions opposing the development, subpoenas, FOIA requests during the process, ex parte contacts with commissioners and elected officials, oaths, testimony at the board/council level, and so much more.
