New Ideas in Land Use from a Planning Perspective
Changing land use trends in both the urban and suburban contexts pose challenges and opportunities for the next generation of development. Hear about recent repositioning and rezoning of industrial planned manufacturing districts, to include a case study transformation of “The River District,” a new 30-acre redevelopment of the Tribune property on the Chicago River. In comparison, learn about the suburban land use challenges with repositioning of underutilized retail sites. Case studies will incorporate these trends in the Lincoln Mall Redevelopment and Future of the Walmart Experience. With each case study, critical issues in the entitlement process to support these significant land use transformations will be emphasized.
