Timothy E. Moran of Schmidt Salzman & Moran, Ltd., in Chicago is the focus of our May FLASHPOINTS author spotlight. Moran’s most recent contribution was to the Institute’s REAL ESTATE TAXATION (IICLE®, 2020) handbook. He views the 2020 edition as especially relevant and timely, “particularly in these very difficult times when taxation and governmental budgets and valuation issues are reaching unparalleled levels of uncertainty.”
Moran reports that when he first became involved with the project, he jumped at the opportunity to join the ranks of highly regarded authors on a respected handbook. “I became involved in IICLE® for the simple reason that, in my field of practice, REAL ESTATE TAXATION is universally recognized as the academic go-to reference manual,” he explains. “It has always been written by the foremost experts in the real estate tax field, all of whom I admired and respected and many of whom I came to know well.” Moran adds his 30-plus years of experience to the mix.
In addition to his role as a Partner at Schmidt Salzman & Moran, Ltd., Moran has served on several committees and councils of the Illinois State and Chicago Bar Associations. He is a Certified Illinois Assessing Officer and an Illinois Licensed Managing Real Estate Broker. He teaches State & Local Taxation as an adjunct professor at The UIC John Marshall Law School and is a former elected member, President, and Vice President of the Board of Education of Geneva, Illinois. He received his B.S. and J.D. from DePaul University.
