The Institute is pleased to announce the appointment of IICLE Student Ambassador Vaughn Richardson, a 2L student at Northern Illinois University College of Law, for the 2019 – 2020 academic year.
Ms. Richardson did not begin her law school career with intentions to focus on family law, but she became deeply interested in that practice area during her 1L summer. She plans to return to work with her mentor, David S. Mann of the Law Offices of David S. Mann in Lisle this summer. Richardson is looking forward to growing and learning more about the division of financial assets and the associated tax repercussions. Additionally, she has set a goal of further developing skills to navigate qualified domestic relations orders and qualified Illinois domestic relations orders for her 2L summer work experience.
Richardson is highly involved on campus as the newly elected President of NIU Student Bar Association and Head of Chambers for Trial Advocacy Society at NIU for the 2019 – 2020 academic year.
She places a high value on experiential learning: “I take more of a hands-on approach to new challenges, and I learn best by doing.” Richardson is also proud of her participation in her school’s moot court and mock trial programs, becoming a semi-finalist in the internal trial competition this year. She is very eager to compete next year in both the trial and appellate external competitions at the national level.
Outside school, Richardson enjoys spending time with her family, her close friends, and her three dogs, Lola, Blue, and Willie Nelson. Richardson teaches group fitness classes at the LifeTime Fitness in Bloomingdale, explaining how this fits with her plans to become an attorney: “Teaching group fitness is a great way to practice improvising and speaking to a large captive audience, both of which are important skills for a litigator.”
The Institute is delighted to welcome Ms. Richardson to the group of IICLE Student Ambassadors to liaise with Northern Illinois University law students for the 2019 – 2020 academic year.
