Adrianne C. Mazura,
DLA Piper US LLP, Chicago*

Adrianne C. Mazura represents employers in all areas of labor and employment law.  Her work as national labor counsel for a telecommunications company has involved her in every area of employment law including union organizing campaigns and defense of numerous individual and multiparty cases throughout the country.  Ms. Mazura is a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a member of the board of directors of the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE) and its executive committee.  In 2005, she was designated a Super Lawyer in the first ever survey of Illinois lawyers conducted by the Super Lawyers rankings, a research project originating with Law & Politics magazine.  She is an author and frequent lecturer on labor law and related topics   Ms. Mazura has co-authored "What To Do When The Union Calls" for the Chicago Association of Commerce and Industry and "Drug Testing in the Workplace", which is jointly published by the Bureau of National Affairs and the American Society for Clinical Pathologists.  She has authored chapters in IICLE's employment discrimination handbook on "Race Discrimination and Religious Discrimination".

George F. Mahoney III,

George F. Mahoney III, of Mahoney, Silverman & Cross, Ltd. in Joliet practices in the areas of governmental law, zoning and land development law, municipal law, appellate practice, and general litigation. Mr. Mahoney is currently a member of the Will County and Illinois State Bar Associations, where he is on the Standing Committee on Legislation and Judicial Ethics and Evaluations. He also sits on the Board of Directors of IICLE and the Board of Trustees of Silver Cross Hospital. Mr. Mahoney currently serves on the Supreme Court of Illinois' Committee on Judicial Performance Evaluation. He received his B.A. with high honors from Lewis College and his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law.

Robert G. Markoff, Baker, Miller, Markoff & Krasny, LLC, Chicago*

Robert G. Markoff is a partner in the firm of Baker, Miller, Markoff & Krasny, Chicago , Illinois . He received his B.S. degree with honors and distinction from the University of Illinois and J.D. degree from DePaul University College of Law. Bob was the founding president of the Illinois Creditor's Bar Association and is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Decalogue Society, National Association of Retail Collection Attorneys, American Collection Association, Inc., and the Commercial Law League of America. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education and frequently lectures throughout the State of Illinois on subjects relating to the enforcement of judgments, registration of foreign judgments and replevin actions. He is the general editor and a contributing author for the IICLE publication Creditors' Rights in Illinois . Bob also represents creditors' positions related to citations, garnishments and wage deduction proceedings to the state legislature in Springfield .

Hon. Leonard Murray,
Attorney at Law, Chicago*

Hon. Leonard Murray was appointed Associate Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois in April 2007.  Prior to his appointment, Judge Murray worked as an attorney in his own private law practice from 1980-2007 and for Touche Ross from 1974-1980 in their tax department.  Judge Murray has had a long tenure serving as a member of several bar associations and organizations, including the Chicago Bar Association, where he served as Chairman of both the Election Committee and Judicial Evaluations Committee – Appeals, and as a Member of the CBA's Board of Managers.  Illinois State Bar Association, Cook County Bar Association, where he served as President from 1995-1996.  and served as Member of the Board of Governors for the National Bar Association. Judge Murray also served as Chairman of the Executive Committee for the Alliance of Bar Associations for Judicial Screening from  2000-2003.  He has served as a board member for the Illinois Institute for Continuing legal Education since 2003.  He served as chair of the Board of directors of Africa International House USA, Inc. from 2002-2005.  Judge Murray received his B.S. in Economics from St. Francis College, and in 1974 received his J.D. from Northwestern University Law School.   Prior to receiving his education, Judge Murray served in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Army from 1968-1970.  Judge Murray continues to receive numerous awards for his outstanding service to the legal community.

 
Susan O'Neill Alvarado,

Susan O'Neill Alvarado is the sole principal of a small law firm in DuPage County which concentrates its practice in all areas of Family Law.   Ms. Alvarado holds both an undergraduate and law degree from DePaul University in Chicago where she maintains an active teaching position.   Susan serves on both the Board of Directors for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE) as well as the Publications Board for The Brief, a scholarly journal sponsored monthly by the DuPage County Bar Association.  Ms. Alvarado is a recipient of the DuPage County Board of Director's Award recognizing excellence in leadership and service.  She is the current Chair of the DuPage County Bar Association's Professional Responsibility Committee.  Susan is also an active member of the DuPage County Legal Aid Committee, the Family Law Committee, and the Court Facilities Committee.  She serves on the Trial Advocacy Subcommittee of the Family Law Committee and is a presenter at the annual Success Skills program hosted by the IICLE.  Ms. Alvarado is a trained and certified mediator as well as an accomplished litigator, and has provided pro bono services to the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the Center for Conflict Resolution, the Circuit Court of Cook County , and the DuPage County Legal Aid Service.
 
William J. Anaya, Arnstein & Lehr, Chicago

Mr. Anaya is a partner in the Litigation Group of Arnstein & Lehr, LLP, in Chicago , where he practices in areas related to environmental and real estate law. He received his B.A. from Purdue University and his J.D. from the University of Indiana School of Law. Mr. Anaya has spoken for organizations including the American and Illinois State Bar Associations and IICLE, and he has served on the faculty of Loyola University School of Law as an instructor in real estate since 1994. He is a member of the American, Illinois and Indiana State , and Chicago Bar Associations.


Lorraine K. Cavataio, Mathis, Marifian, Richter & Grandy, Ltd., Belleville.
 

Lorraine K. Cavataio is a principal at Mathis, Marifian, Richter & Grandy, Ltd. located in Belleville, Illinois.  Her practice is concentrated in the areas of taxation, probate and trust administration, probate litigation, estate planning, corporate and real estate.  She holds a CPA certification as well.  She is an author for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education and lectures for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education, Illinois State Bar Association, State Retirement Systems, and various professional and civic organizations.  Ms. Cavataio is admitted to practice in Illinois, Missouri, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the United States Tax Court and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.  She received her B.S. from the University of Kansas and her J.D. from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri.  Ms. Cavataio serves as either an officer or director of numerous Civic and Charitable organizations.


Thomas A. Lilien,
Office of the Appellate Defender , Elgin

Mr. Lilien is the Deputy Defender in charge of the Second District Office of the State Appellate Defender.  He received his Juris Doctor from Notre Dame Law School in 1978 and was admitted to the Illinois Bar that same year.  He joined the Office of the State Appellate Defender as an Assistant Defender in the Third District Office in October 1978 and worked there until his transfer to the Second District Office in 1988.  Mr. Lilien continued to serve as an Assistant Defender until he assumed the Deputy Defender position as of January 1, 2006.  Mr. Lilien has served as an adjunct faculty member co-teaching an appellate advocacy course at Northern Illinois University College of Law since 1986.  He has also spoken on criminal and appellate topics to several organizations, including the Illinois Public Defender Association and the DuPage County bar.
 

Timothy Midura, C.P.A., J.D., LL.M., Huck Bouma PC, Wheaton

 

Tim Midura is an attorney with the law firm of Huck Bouma PC, in Wheaton. Tim's law practice is oriented to: business law and planning, complex estate planning and administration, and tax and financial matters. Tim is licensed as an attorney in both Illinois and Florida. He is also a certified public accountant. His bachelors degree is from Northern Illinois University with a double major in accountancy and finance. In addition to his Juris Doctor (JD) (Northern Illinois University) and CPA credentials, he also has a masters degree (LL.M.) in taxation (DePaul College of Law).Tim has numerous published articles to his credit and speaks frequently on topics of estate planning and financial and business matters. He has contributed to or been quoted in, among others, Forbes, Chicago Sun Times, The Journal of Gift Planning, and Illinois CPA Society News. Tim has served on behalf of a number of boards of not-for-profit foundations and corporations, including Christian Ministries Foundation (a community foundation), in Georgia, ALM International (an international health organization), in South Carolina, Soli Deo Gloria (an international sacred music production foundation), in Illinois, and Deicke Center for Visual Rehabilitation (a nationally recognized provider of professional assistance to people with low vision and their families), in Illinois. He has served on the estate and gift tax planning committee of the Illinois CPA Society and as a director of the Chicago Council on Planned Giving.

 
Hon. Sue E. Myerscough, Illinois Appellate Court - Fourth District, Springfield

Hon. Sue E. Myerscough received her B.A. degree with honors from Southern Illinois University (SIU) in 1973 and her J.D. degree from SIU Law School in 1980, where she was an editor for the Law Review. She served as a law clerk for Judge Harold A. Baker, U.S. District Court, Danville , and was in private practice until her appointment as Associate Judge in 1987. She became Presiding Judge of Sangamon County in 1994, and in 1996 she became Chief Judge of the Illinois Seventh Judicial Circuit where she served until her election to the Circuit Court in 1990. Judge Myerscough was elected to the Fourth District Appellate Court in 1998 and served as Chief Justice in 2003. She is a member of the Illinois Judges' Association, American Bar Association, American Trial Lawyers Association, Sangamon County Bar Association, Illinois Judicial Ethics Committee, Lincoln-Douglas Inn of Court, Central Illinois Women's Bar Association, Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education Board of Directors, and Sojourn Board of Directors. Judge Myerscough has been an adjunct professor at SIU School of Medicine since 1994. She and her husband, Bob, have two daughters.
 
 

Elayna T. Pham, Jenner & Block LLP, New York

Elayna Pham, Jenner & Block, New York, practices in the areas of litigation of trademark, trade dress, copyright, patent and trade secret cases on behalf of corporations and individuals, as well as legal issues presented by e-commerce and emerging technology.  In addition to her litigation experience, Ms. Pham also has extensive experience on a variety of transactional and regulatory issues including advising clients on the selection and protection of trademarks and service marks, prosecuting domestic and international trademark applications, performing intellectual property audits at client sites, defending client intellectual property audits, counseling clients on trademark portfolio management issues, performing due diligence for corporate deals, licensing and reviewing advertising and promotions copy for compliance with FTC and FDA regulations.  Ms. Pham lectures and writes frequently on topics relating to intellectual property.  Ms. Pham serves on the Associate Board for Literacy Chicago, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the literacy skills of adults and children in Chicago and on the Board of Directors for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education.  She is also a member of the American Bar Association, the Bar & Gavel Society and Phi Alpha Delta.  Ms. Pham received her B.A. in Journalism (minor in Justice, Law & Society) from The American University in 1996 and her J.D. from the Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1999 where she received her Intellectual Property certification, a CALI Award for Intellectual Property Legal Drafting and the Bar & Gavel Award.

 


William R. Quinlan, Quinlan & Carroll, Ltd., Chicago

William R. Quinlan is a name partner of Quinlan & Carroll. Quinlan is a former Justice of the Illinois Appellate Court and a former Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County. Previously, he was a name partner at Phelan, Cahill & Quinlan, Ltd. in Chicago. His legal experience includes serving as Corporation Counsel for the City of Chicago under Mayors Richard J. Daley, Michael Bilandic and Jane Byrne. He served as a Senior legal assistant for the Illinois Supreme Court, General Counsel for the Chicago Urban Transportation District and General Counsel for the Chicago Building Commission. Mr. Quinlan' s practice involves litigation and appeals of complex matters in State and Federal courts; governmental representation and counseling; and service as an arbitrator and mediator.
 
Donald P. Seberger,
Alcan, Inc., Chicago*

Mr. Seberger is Vice President and Chief Counsel (USA) of Alcan Inc., a multinational corporation engaged in the production, conversion, and processing of aluminum and the production of plastic packaging for the medical, pharmaceutical, food and dairy, and consumer products industries. He and 5 other lawyers in the Chicago office of the Alcan Law Department have the primary responsibility for providing legal advice and related services to Alcan's affiliates in the United States, Mexico, and South America. In June 2005, he was also named Chief Counsel of Alcan Bauxite & Alumina Group. He joined Pechiney in February of 2001, assuming primary responsibility for all merger, acquisition, and strategic and special projects of the Pechiney Group in North and South America. Alcan acquired Pechiney in December 2003 and as part of Pechiney's integration into Alcan, he was promoted to Alcan's Chief Counsel in the United States. Mr. Seberger has negotiated and documented corporate and commercial transactions, including acquisitions, joint ventures, and divestitures, throughout the United States and in Europe, South America, Australia, and The Peoples Republic of China. While his practice concentrates largely in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and similar corporate and business transactions, he also has substantial experience in commercial lending, bank regulatory matters, corporate reorganization and restructurings under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, sales and distribution law, business franchising, equipment leasing, intellectual property licensing, and employment agreements. He is the author of several professional articles, including a 1991, 2001, and 2004 chapter on Subordination and Inter-Creditor Agreements for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education's book on Secured Transactions. Mr. Seberger is a graduate of Valparaiso University where he earned both his J.D. (1980) and B.A. (1974) degrees.

Robert Z. Slaughter,
Grubb & Ellis Company, Chicago


Mr. Slaughter was appointed Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Grubb & Ellis Company (NYSE: GBE) in April 2006.  He is responsible for the overall delivery of legal services for the Company, a leading global commercial real estate firm, which provides a full range of real estate services, including transaction, management and consulting services, to users and investors worldwide.  Mr. Slaughter is also a member of the Company's management executive committee.  In addition, Mr. Slaughter serves as General Counsel of Grubb & Ellis Realty Advisors, Inc. (AMEX: GAV), an investment company formed in February 2006 to acquire commercial real estate.

Mr. Slaughter has nearly 25 years of broad-based legal experience in both private practice at major law firms and in executive in-house legal positions.  Prior to joining Grubb & Ellis, Mr. Slaughter was a Partner in the Chicago office of the law firm of Jenner & Block where he advised clients with respect to corporate, securities, governance and commercial matters.  Prior to joining Jenner & Block in 2001, he served as general counsel and a member of the executive leadership teams at Moore Corporation Limited, where he was Vice President and General Counsel, and at Ameritech Corporation, where he was a business unit Vice President and General Counsel.  Before joining Ameritech, Slaughter was a Partner at the Chicago-based law firm of Keck, Mahin & Cate and at the Chicago law firm of Arnstein & Lehr, where he began his legal career in 1982. Mr. Slaughter received his law degree from The University of Chicago Law School in 1982 and graduated from Princeton University in 1978 with a degree in politics. At Princeton, Mr. Slaughter was a member and captain of the varsity basketball team and was awarded the B.F. Bunn Trophy for his contributions to the basketball program.

 
Lauren J. Wolven
, Brown Brothers Harriman Trust Company, Chicago

 

In addition to heading up trust operations at Brown Brothers Harriman in Chicago, Lauren is responsible for wealth advisory operations.  Before joining Brown Brothers Harriman, she was a partner in the Wealth Protection Group of the Chicago law firm Horwood Marcus & Berk Chtd.  Her practice involved estate planning, estate and trust administration, guardianship administration, elder law, tax and succession planning for privately held businesses, and trust and estate litigation.

 

Lauren began her career as a volunteer for two and a half years at Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation in Urbana, Illinois, which is state legal services for individuals who cannot afford an attorney.  After her student law license became a full license in 1999, Lauren returned to Chicago and joined the law firm Sidley & Austin (now Sidley Austin LLP).  During her time at Sidley, she became involved with the Mock Trial Program for the Chicago city high schools sponsored by the Chicago Coalition for Law Related Education. Lauren has been involved in the volunteer program since that time and following two years on the Steering Committee, has coached the mock trial team at Hubbard High School for the past 5 years.

 

During the course of her career, Lauren has become known as a frequent lecturer and author on a variety of estate planning and trust administration topics.  She is the co-author of the treatise "Managing Litigation Risks of Fiduciaries," BNA's recent addition to its prestigious Tax Management Portfolio series.

 


John S. Young,

John S. Young, Mount Prospect , Illinois , is a Sole Practitioner concentrating on real estate, probate, wills and trusts, and general corporate law. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Communications from De Paul University in Chicago and graduated Magna cum Laude from Southern Illinois University School of Law. Mr. Young is currently Adjunct Professor for Dominican University teaching Business Law & Negotiations.
 


William Yu, Hinshaw & Culbertson, Chicago

William Yu, a Partner with Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, concentrates his practice in the areas of professional liability, commercial litigation, class action litigation, products liability and civil rights defense.  Mr. Yu was recently appointed as a member of the Hearing Board for Illinois' Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission.  He has served as a Regional Governor for the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association and is a Past President of the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Chicagoland Area.    In addition, Mr. Yu served on the City of Chicago's Commission on Human Relations, Advisory Council on Asian Affairs and the Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Panel for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Susan T. Bart,
Sidley Austin, LLP, Chicago*

Susan T. Bart is a partner in the Private Clients, Trusts & Estates Group of the Chicago office of Sidley Austin, LLP.  She is a member of the board of directors and Secretary of the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education, authored for IICLE the book Education Planning and Gifts to Minors, and coauthored for IICLE the award-winning book Illinois Estate Planning Forms and Commentary.  She also writes a monthly Q & A column for MorningstarAdvisor.com on their website entitled "529 Advisor."  Ms. Bart earned a Juris Doctor degree, magna cum laude (Order of the Coif), in 1985 from the University of Michigan Law School.  Ms. Bart is a Fellow of the American College of Trust & Estate Counsel (ACTEC) and assistant editor of the ACTEC Journal.  She has lectured to various professional groups, including the Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning ( University of Miami ), the American College of Trust & Estate Counsel, the Notre Dame Trust & Estate Planning Institute, ALI -ABA, and IICLE.  Ms. Bart has written articles for various publications.
